Ten weeks of adventure, learning, and fun await—see below for descriptions of each weekly session.
1st–6th Grade Camp: 9am–4pm.

Session 1: June 1721, 2024

Under the Big Top Camp: Performance Week 
Special Experience: A workshop with a local circus performer. 

Ever dreamed of running away to join the circus? Now is your chance! You will engage in theatre games and learn many performance skills including clowning, juggling, and magic tricks. Finally, you will have a chance to show off your new-found skills in a live circus show at the end of the week for friends and family! !  

Four-Day Week Cost: $240

Session 2: June 2428, 2024 
Wild America

Special Experience: Design, sculpt, and paper mâché your very own North American animal sculpture. 

Explore our country through the indigenous animals that inhabit it! Learn extraordinary facts about how they survive and what you can do to help them thrive. From bees to bears, you will craft to your heart’s content and play a myriad of exciting animal-inspired gym games, including ‘Beaver Dam’ and ‘Bison Run’! 

Five-Day Week Cost: $300

Robin Hood’s Adventure Week 

Field Trip: Washington Park Playground 

Step back in time and into the fantastic world of Sherwood Forest! Partake in archery, jousting, and pool-noodle fencing! You will meet the elegant Maid Marion, be trained by the chivalrous Little John, and outsmart the less than honorable Sheriff of Nottingham. During the week, you will fashion your own costume pieces and decorations for Nottingham’s grand tournament where your new-found skills will be on display! 

Four-Day Week Cost: $240

Session 4: July 812, 2024 
Honey, I Shrunk the Campers

Special Experience: Learning the art and craft of miniature building.

Would you like to create a fairy house, a tiny cabin, or a miniature mansion? This is the camp for you! You will spend the week learning new and different techniques for construction, repurposing materials, sculpting tiny items, and creating a miniature world of your very own. 

Five-Day Week Cost: $300

Session 5: July 1519, 2024 
Superhero Film Week
Field Trip: Movie premiere in a local cinema. 

From storyboards to a fully realized superhero movie, campers will work together to create an original film! You will begin the week with storyboarding and script writing and then move on to creating props and costumes. You will also learn how to shoot and edit your scenes. Finally, you will wrap things up with your very own movie premiere in a local cinema!

Session 6: July 2226, 2024 
Mythical, Magical Beasts Week 
Special Experience: Craft your own monsters and compete in epic adventures!

From benevolent guardians to wrathful destroyers, many cultures in the world have lore about mythical and magical beasts. This week, you’ll learn the myths and create the dragons, unicorns, and monsters. In addition to crafting and learning the legends, you will join in epic daily gym competitions as both the hero/heroine and the beasts, themselves!

Five-Day Week Cost: $300

Session 7: July 29August 9, 2024

Pass the Torch: The Summer Games 
Field Trip: Sellwood Pool + Olympic Learning

Ascend the slopes of Mount Olympus and join Friendly House in a week of sports galore!  Campers will be bussed to Sellwood Swimming Pool for swimming lessons taught by the aquatics staff of Portland Parks and Recreation in the morning. We will stay in the afternoon one day each week to participate in open-play swim for campers to practice what they are learning in their lessons.  

On the days that we return to Friendly House in the afternoon, campers will learn about the origins of the Olympic tradition and why it spans the globe and continues today. Campers will create their own countries and craft an assortment of Olympic paraphernalia, such as flags, metals, and Olympic torches.  

Two-Week (10-Day) Cost: $700

All Around the World 

Field Trip: Sellwood Pool + Experiencing Different Cultures

Set off on a wet and wild whirlwind tour of the globe! Campers will be bussed to Sellwood Swimming Pool for swimming lessons taught by the aquatics staff of Portland Parks and Recreation in the morning. We will stay in the afternoon one day each week to participate in open-play swim for campers to practice what they are learning in their lessons.  

When you’re not having a blast at the pool, you will explore the seven seas and the seven continents. Discover new and fascinating cultures through food, art, and games enjoyed by children around the world!  

Two-Week (10-Day) Cost: $700

Discount, Billing, and Payment Policies

A $50 non-refundable deposit, per child and per session, is due at the time of registration.  A $50 sibling discount is offered for the second and all subsequent children. Families who complete the scholarship application will not be required to submit payment at registration. They may be contacted later to make a full or partial payment, depending on scholarship eligibility. Click here to apply for a scholarship.

Full payment is due 14 days prior to the start of each session (this excludes families receiving full scholarships). Refunds for canceled reservations will not be provided if a cancellation is made less than 14 days prior to the start of the session.

Payments can be made online, by check to “Friendly House,” or with cash.
