Flyer for Remembering Event, text included in description below

REMEMBERING is a collaborative effort created by and for Portland’s Native Community in observance of Indigenous People’s Day.

This program fosters healing through food, storytelling, and a community weaving project.

It is a collaboration made possible by the efforts of community members a.c.ramírez de arellaño and Laura Campos, held at Friendly House, and with support from a Community Healing through Arts Grant from the City of Portland.

The event on October 10 and 11 will include intergenerational activities such as Native Storytelling by Shilo George and Lukas Angus, children’s craft activities led by Miss Messy, and food prepared by Kays’ Son’s Catering including bison stew and wild rice with Choctaw squash.

The project will create a large community weaving, each strand representative of each person’s interrelatedness within a larger whole. Weaving activities include two looms and multiple handheld individual looms – each in different stages of becoming and undoing to incorporate multiple processes towards a new and different future.

Materials will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring small meaningful objects from home that can be woven into the public artwork. On one of the looms, participants are invited to unravel yarn from a weaving and then weave it onto smaller handheld looms; those smaller weavings will in turn be collected and stitched together in appreciation of each mini-weaving’s unique character and texture.

An airdry clay beadmaking activity will be available for people to create personal beads for the weaving.

When: Sunday, October 10, 2:00pm – 4:00pm and Monday, October 11, 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Where: Friendly House, 1737 NW 26th St.
