Jerome Kern’s masterpiece, Show Boat, changed the course of American Musicals securing his position in music history. With a career spanning four decades, numerous musicals and several hundred songs, Kern had a profound impact upon the shaping of American popular music, both on Broadway and in Hollywood, in the first half of the 20th century.
This online program will be presented by American music historian Gordon Neal Herman for Portland’s Friendly House on Friday, May 21st at 2:30 pm.
