Dr. Bill Virtual Presentations: The Hudson River School Painters

The Hudson River School was a mid-19th century American art movement focused on landscape painting, emphasizing the grandeur and beauty of the natural world, particularly the Hudson River Valley and the American West. Key figures include Thomas Cole, Asher B. Durand, Albert Bierstadt and several successful women artists, including Julie Beers and Harriet Peale. Influenced by Romanticism, the movement aimed to capture the spiritual essence of nature and foster a sense of national identity through landscape art. This program looks briefly at the lives of these artists and explores some of their most highly regarded paintings.
