At Friendly House, Pride is more than a celebration, it’s a recognition of the LGBTQ+ community’s strength, history, and ongoing journey toward justice and equality. Pride began as a protest, sparked by events like the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, where LGBTQ+ individuals, led by trans women of color, stood up against systemic oppression. That spirit of resistance lives on today in the continued fight for dignity, visibility, and safety.
Portland holds a powerful place in that story. From the early organizing work of the Portland Town Council in the 1970s to the city’s first official Pride parade in 1994, our local LGBTQ+ community has long been a source of strength and leadership.
We invite you to honor that legacy and celebrate with us at the Friendly House Pride Party on Friday, June 27 from 5:30–7:00pm. There will be food, fun, and a chance to connect with community in a welcoming and inclusive space. Whether you’ve been here from the start or are joining for the first time, you are part of this vibrant and resilient story.
Happy Pride from all of us at Friendly House!
