Chris lives just up the street from Friendly House and has been an integral part of our community for years. His legal expertise and insights into our capital campagin and other facilities projects have been invaluable to the success of Friendly House’s mission, and we are so grateful to have him and his amazing wife (former Board President Regina Hauser) in our neighborhood.

Christy has been a part of the FH family for the better part of a decade and has given so much of her time and resources in support of so many facets of our community, from volunteering in our Children’s Programs, to helping prepare for our Annual Spring Auction, to supporting our Development Department with invaluable guidance and positive energy. Christy is the personification of community, and we are so lucky she’s part of ours.

Chris’s extensive experience with urban planning, philanthropy, and fundraising aside, it’s his deep roots in our community that make him an indispensable member of the Friendly House team. Chris’s kids are Friendly House Children’s Programs alumni, and his family continues to build connections to the community through Friendly House’s work and his service on our board.

While Susan’s work as Assistant Vice President of Heffernan Insurance has proven greatly beneficial to Friendly House’s staff, her experience working in the community has been an even greater asset to the Friendly House Board of Directors.

None of us were quite ready for the level of insight and enthusiasm for FH’s role in the community that Val would bring to the table when she joined our Capital Campaign Task Force in 2019. While the pandemic put the campaign on hold, Val was able to continue helping FH find ways to better serve the community and spread the word about all the ways our services had adapted to meet the needs of our community in the midst of COVID-19. Now, as the co-chair of our Development Task Force and through her role on the board, Val is a guiding force for the future of FH.

Mallory has been part of the Friendly House community for years, bringing her positivity, talent and skills to support our events and programming. Her roots in the local nonprofit community throughout Portland continue to grow, and we are proud to be part of the network that she has built around her.

Carol is a former Board Chair at Northwest Pilot Project and Treasurer for the PGE Retirees’ Association. She retired from Portland General Electric in 2020, where she was Chair of the Advisory Committee on Diversity & Inclusion. She holds an MBA from Marylhurst University. 

 Her current involvement with Friendly House includes ​Elder Pride Services Housing Committee, Auction Committee, DEIA Committee, co-teacher of the Dance Around the World class; long time donor​. 

Meet Travis Nanchy, a dedicated marketing executive at adidas and an adjunct marketing professor at the University of Portland. A resident of Northwest Portland for 15 years, Travis is passionate about both his career and his community. He actively gives back through his role on the board of Friendly House and his contributions to The Forest Park Conservancy. With a blend of professional expertise and a commitment to community service, Travis looks forward to finding ways he can bring value to the board.

Travis is co-owner and designer at Weedman Design Partners, a small interior architecture studio he runs with his wife, Arielle, just a few blocks from Friendly House. He values connection and creativity at a neighborhood scale—hosting community events, supporting local artists, and fostering a sense of place through design. With over 20 years of experience leading creative projects and managing a small business, Travis brings a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving. He’s excited to support the Friendly House mission with energy, perspective, and a strong commitment to community.

Koré is a former engineering manager and facilities manager, with nearly three decades of experience in the semiconductor industry.  She is a pragmatic and capable technical leader and is able to dive into the detailed analytics but also lift up to see the big picture.  Koré lives in the NW neighborhood, and her child attended the Friendly House After-School program.  She has already brought her enthusiasm to promoting the Spring Auction, and we are looking forward to all the ways her energy and unique expertise will serve Friendly House operations and programming.

We really don’t have adequate words to articulate how deeply Ruth Roth’s connection to Friendly House runs. She has given FH many years of leadership and guidance, both through her service on our Board of Directors (including serving as the Board President in 2004) and her countless hours spent chairing our Annual Spring Auction, among many other instances of indispensable wisdom and support. Through all these years, Ruth has been our rock.

Mike has been playing basketball at Friendly House for over 10 years, attended numerous auctions and events, and we are thrilled to finally welcome him to our Board of Directors. Mike is a Transportation Planner who has worked on active transportation projects across North America, and you just might see him zooming past Friendly House on his bike! He brings deep expertise in project management, data analysis, and finance to the work of the board.

Amy has been a part of the Friendly House community for decades, since she first entered our doors as a preschooler. She later attended as an elementary school day camper, then a day camp volunteer,  and finally became a teacher in our Friendly Chaps program and eventually a program director. She later moved on to Portland Public Schools, where she was a teacher for 25 years. She is closely connected with First Presbyterian Church, and she is a vocal supporter of FH’s ever-evolving programs to meet the needs of the community as they arise.

Janet’s appreciation for the mission of Friendly House extends 37 years, since her daughter participated in the After School Program, and later worked as an FH summer day camp counselor. Janet’s career has spanned many roles including Minister, University Chaplain, Hospice Director of Volunteers, Director of Marketing, and Development Officer. She brings over 50 years of local, regional, and national leadership experience with nonprofit organizations. Janet also brings to the board many years of fundraising experience and is a current FH participant in the exercise program and social activities with a deep understanding of the value proposition from FH’s programs for community residents.

Brett has enjoyed getting to know the folks that work at and visit Friendly House one coffee at a time. Brett is the manager and head roaster at Haven Coffee just up the street on Thurman. His passion for serving the community and making meaningful connections is largely what attracted him to coffee and also what drew him to Friendly House’s mission. While working in the neighborhood, Brett has seen on a regular basis how integral Friendly House is to the NW Portland community and beyond.

Misty was first introduced to Friendly House almost a decade ago when her youngest son’s youth football team volunteered — and both were instantly hooked. Since then, Misty has been a dedicated supporter, giving her time and energy alongside her family, assisting with staff volunteer efforts, promoting community awareness, and enthusiastically supporting the Annual Spring Auction. Her passion for building community and creating meaningful impact is what inspired her to join the Friendly House Board.
